Septic Tank Treatments Septic tanks normally act as passive systems and require no additional action from you. Waste is carried from your pipes to the septic tank, where it is processed by the bacteria in the tank. As more water enters the septic tank, carrying waste with it, water leaves the septic tank to the drain field, where it is reabsorbed.
